Our (my) story with essential oils
I have always wanted to live a healthy life. I think most of us do. I also am super cautious about trying things that can be seen as controversial. I guess I just never wanted to look like I fell for a really bad fad, or something that just wasn't real.
I never would have said that out loud, but I felt that way about essential oils. I knew very little about them, and I didn't want to take the time to learn about them. I really just didn't think I had the brain space to learn something new.
UNTIL, I had a stroke in the summer of 2018. God in his kindness protected me that day, and left me with no deficits. BUT, I now carry this in my health history and have to be careful about what medications and products that I use.
Then about 5 months later my mom ordered essential oils and that Thanksgiving night I remember looking at her set of oils. In the box that she had ordered there was a pamphlet that explained what each of the oils was for and how to use it.
What I had thought would take me days to learn, took me about 30 minutes.
One oil that I had seen in my mom's box of oils was made to help with aches and pains. This was what I had been looking for. Something to replace over the counter medications like Tylenol, Advil, and aspirin. I wanted help that was natural and safe that could support my body when I had head pain and tension.
That next month I took my Christmas money and bought my own box of oils and a diffuser. What had seen so overwhelming was actually easy and simple. The box had 12 oils, and I focused on learning what those 12 oils did for my body.
My normal family and I were using essential oils a little more each day. We never, ever, thought we would be one of 'those' families. HA!
Several years have passed and we use them daily. I want to share with you some of the things we use them for because I know I would have had no idea how to use them in every day life!

Starting with essential oils is pretty easy. Just go into it with an open mind. You will surprise yourself.
Are essential oils right for you?
I know that essential oils are not for everyone. But how did you know if they will benefit you or that they will work for you?
First, let's start with if you are actually open to it. I had been exposed to essential oils before I had my stroke, but I truly just wasn't open to having a new tool in my life.
Are you dealing with something that you feel like you have tried many different things to help and you still aren't getting anywhere?
Are you someone that likes to use the most natural, less toxic option, if at all possible?
Are you just curious about how all the oil stuff works?
I don't think you have to have a big profound reason to try essential oils, but I do think you have to have an open mind.
I mean, most of our parents did not use essential oils. They used what was available. There isn't anything wrong with not using them but if you've done any research at all in to our products (laundry detergent, Tylenols, baby wash, deodorant, etc.) then you likely know that there are some things we could do without in them. When we know better, we do better!
I am a believer in God, and so my mind set going into this was that God made plants, and if He made them, I want to at least know what they can do. Essential oils are plant by products that come from the plant itself. They are what protect the plant from harm. The citrus oil from a lemon or orange is citrusy (aka acidic) because it protects the plant from disease.
There is a saying that floats around in the oil circles, and it is kitschy, but there is some truth to it I think. It's this: "there's an oil for that!" There are so many ways to use oils, that whatever you are dealing with there is likely an easy step to using an oil to support you with that issue.
I know that God made plants and I can use them too. I didn't want to avoid essential oils because I was afraid that someone would think I was 'new-age,' 'hippy,' or supported a 'pyramid scheme.' I wanted to try them and see what they were all about. This maybe were you are at, you know a little, and you only have heard what other's have said about them, and you are wanting to make an informed decision about them yourself.
So are you curious? Or are you thinking, "I've tried them before and they don't work." I get that too...I thought that too! HA!
I didn't want to waste money and time on something that didn't work.
That is why I use pure essential oils - not the ones that have extra ingredients in them. That's why I use Young Living oils. Their oils are truly the highest quality. What that means is that they are going to work! And the real value is that because they are the purest, highest grade oils you can buy, that you don't have to use that much to get the effects you want.
Essential oils are not a cure all, but they are a tool you can put in your tool box at home and in your life to help with the everyday issues you have. That's what I have found to be the most helpful.
What if you used them? What if they worked? What if you liked them? What if you had a stash at home to use when you need relief quickly?
If you can answer those questions then I think you might know if they are right for you.
